We pulled a full week of call data together for the first time. Call counts and subsequent returns moved together surprisingly tightly, a 0.84 correlation, and coins named across many rooms, and freshly minted ones, reacted the hardest. The day's leaderboard was filled with animal-name memes, but what caught our eye was not the names; it was the regularity of the numbers. Perhaps we had found a thread leading to a formula for returns, we thought, and set out to verify it. What we did not yet know was whether that strong correlation was a leading signal, or merely a shadow moving in step.
