Analyst, Not Engineer: Deciding to Read the Data Ourselves
🧭 We shifted our style: rather than building more tools, read the result data ourselves and draw the next hypothesis from it. Also refined a backtester for post-entry behavior, like quick profits versus riding to the end.
When you grow used to building tools, it is easy to put off actually examining the results those tools produce. Around this time we corrected our working style once: we would open the result data and read it line by line, and draw the next hypothesis from it ourselves. Asking better questions of the data we already had came before building more features. At the same time we refined a backtester to separately test post-entry behavior, such as whether taking quick profits or riding to the end is better. This decision, to face the data with an analyst's eye, set the posture of every discovery that followed.
