Do the Most-Called Coins Win? It's a Trick of Hindsight

🧭 At first glance the most-called coins win big: coins with 20+ calls in a day had a median +2h return of about 4x. But that's hindsight — they got called because they were already pumping. Measured on a real-time signal (a burst of calls in the first 30 minutes), the relationship flips: coins that drew 10+ early calls were down a median 53% two hours later. Calls follow pumps; they don't lead them. (Jun 3-16, 14 days, preliminary.)

The market is still running hot today (regime 1.16). Calls pour in, yet no single coin dominates — they scatter evenly. A natural question follows: won't the most-called coin end up being the biggest mover? At a glance, the data says yes. Over the last two weeks (Jun 3-16), coins that received 20+ calls in a day had a median price of 4.26x two hours after their first call, while coins called only once or twice bled to around 0.4x. More calls, better outcome — seemingly. But a trick of hindsight is hiding here. A coin gets called 20 times in a day because it was already climbing and people kept calling it. The first call lands at a cheap spot before the pump, so looking back at the end of the day it only appears to be a 4x. At that first-call moment, nobody knows the coin will be called 20 times. So we re-tested on a signal you can actually observe in real time — how many calls cluster in the first 30 minutes after the first call. The result was the opposite. If you bought a coin that drew 10+ calls in its first 30 minutes, at the price right then, the median two hours later was 0.47x (about -53%). The coins that drew only one or two early calls held up best, near break-even (0.96-0.98x). The conclusion is clear. Calls are not a signal that leads a pump — they are a trace that follows one. The moment calls swarm onto a coin is most likely already a short-term FOMO top, and chasing in there loses on average. Six weeks of data keep saying the same thing: calls and volume tell you when to sell (or stay away), not when to buy. (A preliminary result over 14 days; we'll revisit as more data accrues.)
