What to Build It With: Why Python and Async

🧭 Stack decision: a Python and FastAPI backend with an async design. With many external market-data calls, the key was keeping the whole system from stalling while waiting on any one of them.

Because we had to ingest a constant stream of messages from many rooms while simultaneously fetching market data for each coin from outside sources, we chose the processing model carefully. The backend would be Python with FastAPI, and we picked an asynchronous design to handle the heavy input-output work efficiently. The point was that while waiting for one coin's data, other work would not stall: many external calls could flow at once. We defined data structures strictly with Pydantic so that mismatched values entering or leaving the system were caught early. These are decisions no user sees, but they governed the stability of the months that followed.
