Rules as Queries: Building a Dynamic Condition Builder
🧭 Built a dynamic builder that translates conditions described as data into database queries. New hypotheses can be tested by changing conditions, not code: the core tool of our analyst-driven style.
When we set out to actually build the rule engine, writing fresh code each time could not keep pace with experimentation. So we designed a dynamic builder where conditions described as data are translated directly into database queries. Define a bundle of conditions like a market cap of 100K to 150K, at least five calls, and a buying edge, and the engine finds the matching calls on its own. This let us verify a new hypothesis quickly by changing only the conditions rather than the code. The core tool of our working style, where the analyst experiments directly without going through an engineer, was made here.
