Call-Time Values Only: No Peeking at the Future
🧭 Resolved again to use only call-time values, not current ones. Recomputing early analyses with call-time values faded several plausible conclusions. On ground cleared of false hope, real questions began.
Through repeated analysis we resolved one thing again and again: when evaluating a coin, use only the values from the moment the call was logged, not from now. The fact that a coin survives now, or what its all-time high has been, is future information unknowable at call time. Mix it into analysis and the results inevitably swell rosy. When we dug up early analyses that had broken this principle and recomputed with call-time values, several plausible-looking conclusions faded. It was an uncomfortable truth, but on the ground cleared of false hope, the real questions could begin.
