Rewinding the Past: Building the Backtester

🧭 Built a backtester that rewinds call records in time to replay what each rule would have picked. It models post-entry movement and stop-losses, not just returns: testing promising-feeling rules in cold numbers.

To know whether a rule was any good, we had to reproduce how it would have done applied to the past. So we built a backtester that rewinds the stored call records in time order and replays exactly which coins each rule would have picked at that very moment. We tried to model close to reality, not merely computing returns but also how price moved after entry and where a stop-loss would have triggered. With this tool, we could coldly verify in numbers a rule that merely felt promising, and many an illusion would later shatter in front of this backtester.
